Class time: 8:00am - 5:00pm Local Time 

Arrival Time: You can arrive up to 30 minutes in advance of the class. 

COVID-19 Guidelines: DBIA will be following the guidelines and restrictions advised by the training facility and local authorities. DBIA strongly suggests to bring a mask to class, as the specific training center may require it.

Baabak Ashuri, PhD, DBIA, CCP, DRMP

Associate Professor

Georgia Institute of Technology

Baabak Ashuri is Associate Professor and Brook Byers Institute for Sustainable Systems (BBISS) Fellow in the School of Building Construction and the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech where he directs Construction Research Center (CRC). Dr. Ashuri’s educational, research, and consulting activities focus on Project Analytics, Construction Engineering & Project Management, Investment Valuation, Economic Decision Analysis, and Innovative Project Delivery Systems (Design-Build (DB), Design-Build-Finance (DBF), Public-Private Partnership (P3), Construction Manager/General Contractor (CMGC), and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD)). His work has implications for improving long-range planning and integrated decision-making process for delivery of resilient and sustainable infrastructure systems.

Donald G. Warren, FDBIA

Executive Vice President, Greenville Division, McCrory Construction Company, LLC

Don Warren has more than 30 years of progressive experience in the construction industry and received his BS Civil Engineering–Construction from North Carolina State University. Don will lead Moss’ Carolinas Division headquartered in Greenville, South Carolina. Don is a founding member of the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) and has been actively involved with that national organization since its inception in 1993. He served on the Board of Directors for six years, including a term as Chairman. 

Don is one of only a few practicing Designated Design-Build Professionals™ in North and South Carolina. He works directly with key clients to build relationships and provide service from preconstruction throughout the construction process. Don has been involved in a myriad of project types throughout the Southeast using design-build for industries including commercial, manufacturing, food, pharmaceutical, distribution and process.

J. Mark Taylor, LEED AP, DBIA

Auburn University

J. Mark Taylor has been active in the field of construction and construction education for over 40 years. Currently Mark is on the faculty of the McWhorter School of Building Science at Auburn University teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in the areas of construction law and contracting business. Previously Mark has taught in the areas of construction estimating and scheduling, project management, project delivery, design-build and LEED certification.

Mark has previously served on the faculties of the University of Denver (16 years), Auburn University in the Department of Building Science (12 years), Clemson University in the Department of Building Science (1 year), and Texas A&M University in the Civil Engineering Department (3 years). He has been active in the Associated Schools of Construction, having served as regional director, national officer, and on the national board of directors, has been a member of accrediting teams for the American Council for Construction Education, and a national officer and board member for Sigma Lambda Chi, the nationally recognized construction honor society.

During his academic associations, Mark has remained active in the construction industry through his extension, consulting and extramural activities. Mark has worked in the area of construction law with his own firm, Law Office of J. Mark Taylor, P.C., has been a partner in a general practice law firm, LaVigne and Taylor, P.C., and served as Director of Field Operations for a commercial general contractor, DRG and Associates, Inc. Mark also has experience in residential construction, has provided detailed construction estimates and schedules for commercial projects, has performed claims analyses, has served as an arbitrator for construction disputes, has served as an instructor for

over 30 short courses and written instructional manuals for the training of project managers, superintendents and masons.

Mark's educational achievements include a Bachelor of Building Construction from Auburn University, a Master of Building Construction from the University of Florida, a Doctor of Philosophy in civil engineering from Texas A&M University, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama.

Mark is a member of the American Bar Association, the Alabama Bar Association, and the Colorado Bar Association. He is married and has two adult children.

What is the Credential?

The Designated Design-Build Professional© certification program is the premier credential for design-build professionals.

Through a combination of education, experience and testing, the DBIA certification program sets a recognized standard for design-build knowledge and expertise.

DBIA offers 2 types of certification

• DBIA© 

The DBIA© certification requires from two to six years of hands-on experience of pre and post-award design-build.

• Assoc. DBIA© 

The Assoc. DBIA© certification does not require hands-on field experience, however it requires a different type of experience: Pre-award professionals (business development and acquisition/procurement) Seasoned professionals new to design-build project delivery; and Emerging professionals (AEC industry college graduates)

What are the Requirements?

Associate DBIA©

• Approved application
• Bachelor’s Degree in an approved field of study. 
Degree not in an approved field of study? No degree? Candidates may qualify through additional experience.
Three to six years of experience in design and construction industry. 
• Completion of DBIA core courses
• Pass certification examination.

DBIA©
• Approved application
• Bachelor’s Degree in an approved field of study. 
Degree not in an approved field of study? No degree? Candidates may qualify through additional experience.
• Three to six years of experience in integrated project delivery (67% must be design-build experience). 
• Completion of DBIA core courses and Code of Conduct Webinar
• 18 hours of approved elective credit
• Three references (one must be an owner)
• Pass certification examination.
