Reality Capture and LOD in Scan-to-BIM, Value in DB Projects over Industry Wide Survey Reality Capture and Scan-To-BIM (S2B) practices improve upon basic field verification practices by enforcing standardization and supporting automation, which facilitate implementation and scalability. While S2B is achievable in practice, there remain several barriers to entry for scaling up teams without the appropriate technology, proper teaming arrangements, and availability of technically well-informed resources. This presentation will provide practical examples of S2B and the lessons learned. Takeaways include how the BIMForum Level Of Development (LOD) and Realty Capture Level Of Acceptance (LOA) Specifications can be used to allow clear team communication on these topics from concept thru construction.
Session Learning Objectives:
1. The presentation will seek to clarify key differences between traditional modeling on design build projects and integrated Scan-To-BIM practices. The distinctive advantage that DB teams have in this will be highlighted in the presentation.
2. The presentation will also highlight advancements made by the BIMForum Level of Development (LOD) and Reality Capture Taskforce to produce a guide for Scan-To-BIM workflows that support non-proprietary, industry accepted standards.
3. The presentation will demonstrate how to apply a key new concept in Scan-To-BIM of Level Of Acceptance that incorporates both scan density and tolerances.
