No Credit (CEU) for this complimentary resource “We’ve always done it that way” thinking is especially damaging during a period of disruption like we’re experiencing in this COVID-19 environment. How can your team truly embrace innovation? Emotional intelligence expert and AEC leadership trainer, Brent Darnell, will explore new ways of working and real-world strategies to up your risk levels to develop the innovative ideas which will be vital during and after our current pandemic crisis. We will also dig into a design/problem solving methodology originated at the Stanford School which will give you a clear path to follow to solve even the most difficult issues.
General Session - The Imperative and Opportunity to Invest in Resilient InfrastructureContains 4 Component(s), Includes Credits Recorded On: 11/08/2019
The World Bank estimates economic losses due to natural disasters could reach $500 billion annually. The need for resilient infrastructure is critical and yet there are major barriers to advancing the widespread adoption of resilient design and engineering best practices. Dr. Flynn will present options for overcoming those barriers, talk about the billions of dollars now starting to flow into thousands of newly created Opportunity Zones throughout the nation and the role design-build teams can play in improving our infrastructure resiliency.
General Session - Everything (and NOTHING) Has ChangedContains 4 Component(s), Includes Credits Recorded On: 11/07/2019
Dr. Jackson is one of America's design-build pioneers, an author, educator and widely recognized expert on making the mental shift. Design-Build Done RightA requires far more than just winning a design-build competition or signing a design-build contract a" it takes a whole new mindset. Dr. Jackson will address the challenges in shifting from a segregated services mentality and the skills necessary to be a successful design-build team member, and what it takes to manage and lead multi-disciplined teams to achieve optimized results under the Design-Build Done RightA approach.

Delivering Integrated Design-Build Excellence at Google's 1212 BordeauxContains 4 Component(s), Includes Credits Recorded On: 11/07/2019
1212 Bordeaux exemplifies how a highly-collaborative project team and an integrated design-build process delivered an inspiring 100,000 sf workplace that exceeded Google's aspirations. The result is a beautiful, adaptable high-performance "living lab", delivered on time and on budget, that also met Google's wide-ranging workplace design and performance requirements. This session will demonstrate how a clear owner vision, streamlined design and review process, and integrated design through construction delivered design excellence and enduring value for Google.
Whatever It Takes: R&D Facility Uses the Whole ToolboxContains 4 Component(s), Includes Credits Recorded On: 11/07/2019
This project involved need to overcome significant development schedule and price challenges at the 11th hour. The 294,000 sf. building included over 200,000 sf. of sophisticated lab spaces for 6 separate users, pilot plant and a cell bank supported by 65,000 sf. of office space, which are linked by collaborative innovation spaces. The building was also important to unify the company's population, both physically and culturally, moving them from four different buildings into the new Bioplace HQ.
Design-Build Collaboration: Success Managing Multiple Projects with One MissionContains 4 Component(s), Includes Credits Recorded On: 11/07/2019
Following numerous instances of severe flooding, the City and County of Denver initiated the Platte to Park Hill Stormwater Systems program, an ambitious new stormwater infrastructure initiative for five northeast Denver neighborhoods that sought to protect against future flooding, increase connectivity, enhance green spaces, and upgrade its infrastructure. The panel will focus on why the City opted to use the design-build procurement approach and the best practices and lessons learned throughout the project.
Engaging and Training a Field-Based, VDC-Enabled WorkforceContains 4 Component(s), Includes Credits Recorded On: 11/07/2019
Instead of centralizing Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) efforts and technology expertise within a specific department or group of people, Barton Malow empowers all project stakeholders to leverage the right technology at the right time starting early in the design phase to optimize communication, collaboration, and transparency. The design-build delivery method enables our VDC subject matter experts to partner early with members of each project team to plan and implement a project-tailored technology strategy. This presentation will highlight the challenges and benefits of empowering a VDC-enabled workforce and describe the process in which we improve accessibility to project-tailored tools that capitalize on the strengths of all project team members.
