Join the DBIA NYC Metro Region for our an annual forum hosted by the SBEG Committee to address small business companies qualifications and reasons why Owners and Construction Managers should take note and bring them into their Design-Build projects.

An award-winning professional recognized with multiple industry honors, she brings over 20 years of experience in architecture, project management, construction management, and Design-Build delivery. Mildred has led multidisciplinary teams on healthcare, infrastructure, education, commercial, and government projects, overseeing project controls, scheduling, estimating, and stakeholder coordination. Her experience includes managing complex, fast-track, and occupied projects with a combined construction value exceeding $500 million.

Melissa Johnson, Assoc. DBIA, ENV SP, WEDG, is the founder and CEO of Melissa Johnson Associates, a WBE/SBE/DBE-certified firm specializing in community outreach, stakeholder engagement, and diversity compliance for public infrastructure projects across the northeast. Melissa’s expertise has been featured in PE Quarterly and Young PE Quarterly. She was named one of ENR New York’s Top Young Professionals (2020) and one of Professional Women in Construction’s Top 20 Under 40 Outstanding Women (2022). She is an active member of the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA), Professional Women in Construction (PWC), Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) – New Jersey and Philadelphia Chapters, American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) New Jersey, the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS), and the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI)
Betty Brano

Betty has 2 decades of experience in commercial design, consulting, and construction. She consults primarily on capital projects that facilitate the space with best practice solutions, specifying the right sustainable materials for construction projects. She bridges the gap between design and construction. Betty has taken numerous DBIA courses and was featured on the DBIA blog for advising Young Professionals on design-build. Betty is a DBIA MWDBE.
Betty works with the government, specifically the Department of Defense and the Navy, on design-build projects. Betty plays a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations of her company and is intently focused on business development, strategic partnerships, and winning outcomes. She is deeply committed to sourcing sustainable ways to curate buildings.
Betty previously served as a project manager for one of the world’s leading investment and wealth management companies, Merrill Lynch, where over the course of a decade she gained the knowledge and skills associated with project planning, job cost analysis and contract negotiations. Her knowledge of design started during her years working in the fashion industry, acquiring the skill for formulating colors, determining design trends, forecasting future trends, sourcing material, product research and project coordination.
Leveraging her professional experiences from the financial and fashion industries, she founded Brano Design. Betty transitioned from residential to commercial interiors during the economic downturn of 2008. Today, Brano Design is regarded as one of the top 100% woman and minority-owned firms in the northeast.
