When rapid development collides with the need for regionalization, the clock is ticking on providing much needed capacity while keeping the well-being of the community at the forefront. In fast growing Gwinnett County, outside of Atlanta, the Department of Water Resources (DWR) tackled this challenge with a Design-Build (DB) project delivery approach for rapid implementation of the $125 million Eastern Regional Infrastructure (ERI) Project. This large, complex project includes water distribution, wastewater collection and conveyance, greenways/trails, and Envision certification from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure. These improvements provide necessary infrastructure to serve approximately 7,000 acres along the County’s eastern border that previously did not have access to sewer.
