Whether laying the conceptual groundwork for a project or problem-solving an issue in real-time, the ability of a Design-Build team to make defensible decisions is fundamental to meeting project goals. A3 Problem Solving and Choosing By Advantages are complementary tools that support effective communication and timely approvals by providing a robust, objective means for project teams to collect, compare and present alternative options in a comprehensive manner. As an Owner working with time-strapped decision-makers, as an architect weighing higher education design priorities and as a contractor assessing value for public and private clients, the presenters each leveraged variations of the A3 and Choosing By Advantages tools to facilitate a defensible process at all levels of decision-making. They'll share their experiences and lessons-learned for using and adapting these tools and lead an interactive workshop where attendees can learn the basics and work in groups to record the decision-making process based on some shared examples: Contract type selection for seismic renovations, site selection for a new campus building and location for mechanical equipment on a tenant improvement.
