As design-build projects become increasingly complex, it is essential to foster strong teamwork among all parties involved. A well-structured teaming agreement establishes the foundation for a trusting and collaborative relationship, starting with project pursuit and extending through the duration of a successful project.

The newly updated DBIA 580: Standard Form of Teaming Agreement Between Design-Builder and Team Member reflects over a decade of industry evolution. It provides a flexible, fair and practical framework for design-builders and design professionals to work together effectively. Jointly developed by DBIA’s Contracts Committee and Design Professionals Advisory Committee, this session will explore the importance of teaming agreements, highlight changes made since the 2012 version and demonstrate how this resource supports stronger, more aligned teams from the start.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Define the role of a teaming agreement in the design-build process and explain its value in aligning team strategy, responsibilities and expectations during a project pursuit.
  2. Understand key updates made to DBIA’s 2012 Teaming Agreement, including how they reflect today’s more complex and integrated design-build environment.
  3. Identify the critical elements of a fair and flexible teaming agreement that benefit both design-builders and design professionals.
  4. Apply best practices from DBIA’s updated Teaming Agreement to enhance collaboration, mitigate risk and improve pursuit outcomes.
