What are the key elements of an ideal process for procuring, designing, building, and activating large, complex healthcare facilities with design build? This panel discussion brings relevant perspectives from Owner, Program Manager, Builder, and Designer based on the team's recent completion of VCU Health's Adult Outpatient Pavilion (AOP) in Richmond, Virginia. Key topics will include owner preparation, team selection, project scope and validation, achieving design objectives, delivery opportunities and challenges, and team differences in mindset and behavior unique to design build. Elements of the Design Build Done Right best practices and individual real-world experience are blended for fresh insight. The new AOP consolidates outpatient adult specialty services on the academic medical center campus bringing together the Massey Cancer Center and multi-disciplinary Shared Clinics into a multi-faceted facility designed to achieve LEED Silver. The 19-story, 615,000 SF building is integrated with a 425,000 square foot parking structure including 1,000+ vehicles. The predominately glass tower is highly visible in the downtown Richmond, Virginia skyline maximizing views and natural daylight on all floors while promoting a welcoming environment for family-centered care and collaboration. The vision for this new 1M SF translational hub for clinical excellence transforms the outpatient VCU Health brand and experience.
