Despite project risks, design-build procurement can encourage and promote creative, effective, and economical geotechnical solutions for an owner. Opportunities for deploying new techniques and technologies exist using performance-based specifications. Further, the partnership among the owner, designer, and contractor can add project value beyond traditional DBB procurement by allowing dynamic responses and the immediate application of lessons-learned to changing conditions as they arise through the project delivery process. Geotechnical risks can be re-evaluated during a project and appropriate actions taken if they are trending toward realization rather than retirement. Panelists will explore Geotechnical topics in DB including: Typical and challenging geotechnical project considerations Experience, interpretation, risk, and risk reduction best practices The importance of quality pre-bid geotechnical investigation, plan, and specification development The value of digital data The value of an informed and experienced owner and mature DB program Best practices for a geotechnical framework in DB delivery, including contractual provisions Turning geotechnical risk into opportunity with performance monitoring Shortlisting, scoring, stipends, and performance metrics Value: Design and Construction Integration, Expertise, and Innovation Geotechnical best-practices, related from the personal experiences of transportation industry geo-professionals representing owners, designers, and contractors, will be shared.
