Many large utilities are shifting towards heavier adoption of collaborative delivery procurement methods for a variety of reasons including the following: 

Accelerating CIP delivery
Attracting best-in-class Design-Build (DB) Teams
Adjusting to current market conditions

This Owners-only interactive panel session will explore the journey taken by three different large utilities towards implanting collaborative delivery projects into their overall CIP delivery strategy. Panelists will discuss the following: 

Overview of each organization and where they are along the journey
Building a culture of trust
Organizational structure changes needed to support implementation of collaborative project delivery (CPD)
Use of internal and external resources
Decision process for which procurement method is planned for different projects/programs
Differing strategies for interacting with stakeholders and approach to Underutilized Business Enterprises (UBE) participation based on the delivery model
Perspective on what makes a DB Team attractive

Ryu Suzuki serves as the Director of Engineering for DC Water. He oversees CIP delivery for the water, sewer and wastewater service areas.

Hampton Roads Sanitation District

Bruce W. Husselbee is the Chief Engineer for the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) and has worked for HRSD for twenty-eight (28) years. Prior to HRSD, he worked in the consulting engineering field for twelve (12) years. His responsibilities include the management of the Asset Management, Design & Construction and Planning & Analysis Divisions. A major role for his department includes implementing HRSD’s $3.8B, 10-Year Capital Improvement Program.

Anna Pridmore, PhD, PE, DBIA

Sr. Vice President - Water/Wastewater

Structural Technologies

Anna Pridmore is the Sr. Vice President of Water/ Wastewater Infrastructure for Structural Technologies with over 20 years of interdisciplinary experience focused on design-build rehabilitation of pipelines and civil infrastructure and over 500 projects implemented to date.  She received her PhD in Structural Engineering, is a licensed professional engineer in California. Anna is on DBIA’s National Board of Directors and serves as the National Board liaison to DBIA’s Water/Wastewater Committee.

Ruth Burney

Design-Build Program Manager

NYC DEP Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction

Ruth serves as the Design-Build Program Manager for the NYC DEP Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction. She is responsible for the delivery of the newly created Design-Build Program and for leading change through collaboration within NYC DEP. She has over 15 years’ experience designing and managing various water and wastewater infrastructure projects, of which 10 years were spent working on various alternative delivery projects in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic prior to joining NYC DEP.
