Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) identified the need to upgrade the 400 mgd Lake Huron WTP (LHWTP) controls systems and some process mechanical systems to address aging equipment and comply with the GLWA guidance documents. Upgrading LHWTP’s I&C system will not only enhance the plant's performance and reliability, but it'll also help advance GLWA's work toward standardizing their 5 water treatment plants, improving utility performance through the latest industry tools and best practices. The purpose of this project is to enhance the reliability, maintainability, and operability of the facility for the long-term. The challenge for GLWA: How to effectively use progressive design build as a delivery method, keep the plant running and avoid service disruption, with a brand-new team of players! This is an advanced panel presentation on how to deliver plant wide I&C and SCADA upgrades while keeping a large WTP in operation.
